Captain John Kelley's venture into Charter Fishing was a very smooth transistion for one reason, customer service. John worked for Digital Equipment (later acquired by Compaq) for 30 years holding many different service and operations titles, he finished with Compaq in 2002 as the Vice President of Global Service Operations. From 2003-2007 he was the Executive Vice President of Operations for Spectralink Corp and most recently was Vice President of Global Services for Tandberg.
Captain John has sharpened his fishing skills aboard many of the fish equipped boats he has owned over the past thirty years. His first boat was a 23' Dusky Center Console, then a 29' Phoenix, 24' Albemarle, 26' Mako and most recently his pride and joy a 2005 27' Boston Whaler Outrage equipped with 225HP Mercury Verados. This vessel will get you to the fishing grounds in a hurry. It is equipped with top of the line Raytheon Electronics.
After many years of fishing as a part time hobby, he now has the opportunity to pursue this activity full time. Although he has fished many areas along the Southern New England coast, during the past 8 years he has primarily fished and boated out of Falmouth Harbor. The diversity of fish, the numerous outstanding fishing spots, and the easy and quick access to multiple trophy locations make this area a great location for fishing Vineyard Sound and the Elizabethan Islands.
He has a great deal of experience sportfishing for Stripers, Bluefish, Bonito, and Albacore using everything from artificials to live bait. He enjoys using light tackle and has caught and released hundreds of fish over the years. At the same time he has taken advantage of some terrific ground fishing opportunities – Fluke, Sea Bass, and Scup – in the Vineyard Sound waters.
This past winter he attended Mass Maritime Academy to study and obtain his USCG Captain’s license to charter and share fishing experiences with others.
John and his wife have made Falmouth their permanent residence. He has become a permanent fishing resident of Squibnocket, Wasque, Middle Ground, Quicks Hole, Devils Bridge and many more locations that are between him and his crew. Frequent fishing pals include Chuck from the Vineyard, Stoli the Chocolate Lab, his son Mike and Bodi the Brittany Spaniel.
